SOLO
HARALD KIMMIG VIOLIN SOLO
Improvisations for violin
“…The skill and subtlety displayed in this concert was, frankly, amazing, with a recurring sense of “how did we get here?” due to the incredibly organic way they gently massaged and maneuvered musical sounds and materials.”
Simon Cummings, 2016
ENSEMBLE
KIMMIG STUDER ZIMMERLIN
Harald Kimmig – violin
Daniel Studer – double bass
Alfred Zimmerlin – cello
In classical ensembles, the string trio is one of the standard line-ups. In the area of jazz and In improvisation, however, they are rather a rarity, especially in the combination of violin, cello, double bass.
Based on their long-term collaboration, which has resulted in a dreamlike, secure communication and creative familiarity, the three musicians develop finely nuanced and multifaceted sound worlds, structures and forms beyond pigeonholes and boundaries. Concert series with guest musicians such as John Butcher, Elliott Sharp, Jacques Demierre, Gerry Hemingway, Phil Minton, Vinz Vonlanthen and others, but also encounters with dance (Lilo Stahl, Michael Schumacher and others) and literature (Annette Pehnt) always provide new impulses in order to always remain open to new challenges and musical forms.
LE MANCHOT ANALPHABÉTIQUE
Harald Kimmig – e-Violin
Sascha Henkel – guitar, electronics
Sascha Henkel and Harald Kimmig are both tireless sound researchers. Their joint repertoire ranges continuously between noise, new music and a wide range of strange to delicate sounds. The duo draws from the moment and lets the music itself guide them. This spontaneous approach creates a unique sonic journey that blurs the boundaries between genres. The versatility of their musical expression is reflected in an ever-expanding repertoire that ranges from intense, harsh sounds to subtle, delicate tones.
KHW TRIO / KIMMIG HENKEL WEBER
Harald Kimmig – violin
Sascha Henkel – guitar
Christian Weber – double bass
The trio’s music is created through free improvisation, with the soundscape unfolding in the tension between the individual expression of each musician, the spontaneous musical communication and the overall sound of the resulting musical process.
The roots of the music are anchored in the respective musical backgrounds and influences of the members. The musicians’ musical experiences come from a variety of sources, with their birth years, which are offset by about a decade, also playing a role. Equally influential are the various musical scenes and sound research areas in which the musicians were and continue to be active.
The range of musical influences is underlined by the three musicians’ diverse concert experience with improvised music, jazz and contemporary composition. The combination of these different elements creates a unique soundscape that reflects the skills and abilities of each member of the trio.
COLLABORATION WITH EMILIO GUIM (comp/git)
DUO GUIM KIMMIG
Emilio Guim – electric guitar, composition
Harald Kimmig – e-Violin
PARALLEL WAVES
Emilio Guim – electric guitar, composition
Harald Kimmig – e-violine, performance
Patrick Portman – video artist (from 2020)
‘parallel waves’ is a sound and video performance. The two musicians Emilio Guim and Harald Kimmig both repeatedly enter into connections with other art forms: Emilio Guim often incorporates video and performance into his concerts, Harald Kimmig mainly incorporates dance and interactive media. The series of joint concerts now finds a new addition in the collaboration with video artist Patrick Portmann. In the encounter between electric guitar, electric violin and live video, sounds and images undergo common design and compositional processes in order to merge into a whole without the individual elements losing their independence.
